Annual Fund

Imagine the possibilities of unrestricted funds that can be used wherever they are most needed, at any time during the school year, to support teachers, students, and all of our programs from early childhood through graduation.

Imagine coming together as one community with gifts great and small from every family – 100% participation! Imagine the possibilities for each and every child.

The Annual Fund at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia requires an extraordinary effort from the whole community. Like other independent schools, this yearly effort is our primary means of bridging the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating a child. Although there are other opportunities to give throughout the year, the Annual Fund is when we ask everyone to give.

Like other independent schools, the Annual Fund is our school’s yearly effort to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating a child. Although there are other opportunities to give throughout the year, the Annual Fund is when we ask everyone to give.

A concerted fundraising effort is made in December and our goal is to have 100% participation amongst current families, faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees by December 31st. We continue to fundraise for the Annual Fund from other constituencies for the duration of our fiscal year from July 1st to June 30th.

Fundraising is a continuum of activities and events providing parents with a variety of options to contribute not only financially but also with time and talent. The Ode to JoyRide is a family-oriented community event that raises important funds for our school’s financial aid program. The Holiday Fair offers participation in the rich social life of the Waldorf School of Philadelphia. Here all parents are asked to participate for at least two hours during the Holiday Fair weekend. The Spring Benefit celebrates the vibrant community at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia by acknowledging members of the community, raising targeted funds, providing an important opportunity for alumni reunion, and building community partnerships.

We ask teachers, staff, members of the Board of Trustees, and parents to participate and to make a gift at a level that feels right for them. We also receive support from grandparents, alumni families, Waldorf graduates, and community partners.

Tuition and fees cover about 92% of the annual operating expenses of the school. The Annual Fund is the primary means to help bridge the gap. Like fellow independent schools, we rely solely upon tuition revenues and philanthropic gifts to meet our operating and capital expenses.

Tuition is set by the Board of Trustees on an annual basis with the goal of balancing costs and the expenses associated with providing an excellent education. As we continue to build our school’s capacities and long-term sustainability, we know that rising operating costs will always require additional resources. Independent schools use annual philanthropic appeals, such as an Annual Fund, to help cover the resulting gap between income and expenditures.

We hope that you will make a gift that is meaningful for you and your family. Each year we receive gifts ranging from under $100 to over $10,000. Each and every gift is valued and contributes equally toward the goal of 100% participation.
