4th - 9th Grade

Design and create your own unique piece of art or clothing. Explore new materials, techniques, and color, using traditional and contemporary methods of creating beauty, draw inspiration from nature and the work of master artists and designers.

"While I was in handwork camp I got to do all the projects that I wanted to do.  I learned how to sew by hand and on a sewing machine! I made a tiny dress and that was really fun. Handwork camp was my all-time favorite camp and I hope I can go back this year." - Avery, 7th Grade

Projects are individualized for every age and skill level from beginner to the more advanced. The appropriate degree of freedom, challenge, and instruction is offered so that participants can explore their own ideas. Special skills include embroidery, applique, stenciling, nuno felting, shibori, batik, and other dying techniques. Attending 3-4 weeks will provide a varied, rich basis of skill and understanding in textiles, fiber art, and clothing design. Extra 1-1 instruction is available for total beginners and for those who wish to take on an especially challenging project. Participants intending to apply to CAPA's art department will have the opportunity to complete the required figure drawing, landscape, still life, and 3-D artwork, although not all in one week, of course.

Every week culminates in a showcase of work for parents and other visitors.
