Diversity and Inclusion Committee

"A healthy social life is found only when, in the mirror of each soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when, in the whole community, the virtue of each one is living" - Rudolf Steiner

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The Diversity and Inclusion Committee is a working group comprised of parents, faculty, and administration that seeks to catalyze and support meaningful transformation in critical areas of diversity and inclusion at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia.

We seek to acknowledge and celebrate the existing diversity within our school while striving to better mirror the rich life-ways of the world we live in.  In doing so, we hope that our students may then see themselves reflected in their peers and role models.

Diversity and Inclusion

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia is a diverse and actively engaged school community where all experiences and perspectives are welcome.

A fundamental principle of Waldorf education is respect for human rights and the diversity of mankind, and the belief that inclusivity and equality is both a moral and educational imperative.

The Waldorf curriculum provides students with boundless opportunity to examine preconceptions and explore multiple ways of thinking. We recognize that teaching students about diversity is most effective when the school community is itself diverse. We believe that the direct experience of diversity is a powerful way to foster critical thinking, self-confidence, and moral integrity in our students. We acknowledge that diversity and inclusion touch every aspect and corner of our community and that growth is an ongoing process that calls for resolute commitment, collaboration, and mutual respect.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

The Waldorf School of Philadelphia actively encourages and supports diversity and inclusion in our community. We strive to deepen our understandings of each other and the world as they relate to and are reflected through heritage and areas of social justice. We welcome people from (but not limited to) all races, gender, identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, ages, and religions. Our community works to embrace and deepen our own understanding of both our strengths, which support our goals for the inclusion of all, as well as the challenges hindering our progress towards these goals.

In addition to our stated commitment to diversity, we have also adopted the position statements of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and adhere to the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools (ADVIS) Non-Discriminatory Policy as to Students.
