Originally from Birmingham, AL, Crystal Joy has been working as a Waldorf educator since 2012, in both combined and stand-alone classes.

Crystal Joy has engaged in professional development with workshops in the Orton-Gillingham technique (multisensory reading instruction for dyslexic students), Undoing Racism, How to Talk About Race, Teaching Sensible Science, and Jamie York’s Making Math Meaningful curriculum. Her teaching philosophy is based on culturally responsive pedagogy, UNESCO’s research on the Future of Education and renewing the social contract for education, as well as constructivist and constructionist education practices that center on social health and artistic expression.

A lifelong learner, Crystal Joy is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Italian Language, Linguistics, Pedagogy, Methodology, and Curriculum Development at Middlebury College. She loves Fourth Grade, the Punic Wars, flowers, Al-Jabr, writing letters, public transportation, and singing in rounds.
