BS, Sociology, Saint Joseph’s University

Heather worked for 10 years as a special educator, gifted educator, and general education teacher at the Joseph J. Catena School in Freehold, NJ, before relocating to the Philadelphia area, where she was raised. While earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, Heather was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociological Honor Society, as well as Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education.

Heather is an avid reader and writer, having published articles for the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association and Educator Insights. Her articles focus on Social Emotional Learning, technology integration, and strategies for fostering student engagement. She participated in the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshop Summer Festival in 2021 and was a regular attendee of Columbia University Teachers College Reading & Writing Project Supper Club in 2020 and 2021.

During her tenure as a teacher, Heather wrote Language Arts curriculum for her school district, directed elementary productions of The Wizard of Oz and Aladdin, and was the creator of JJC News, her school’s weekly news broadcast. Heather received the 2018 New Jersey Distinguished Cooperating Teacher Award from the State of New Jersey Department of Education, as well as being named a Top Online Fundraising Classroom for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Heather was drawn to Waldorf education because of its alignment with her belief in holistic education, its child-centered approach, and its integration of the arts. Having spent her teaching career creating equity in her own classroom and advocating for inclusivity, she works closely with the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice at the Waldorf School of Philadelphia to create and implement a curriculum that provides students with opportunities to engage in conversations and reflections around topics of identity, kindness, conflict resolution, diversity, and justice.
