Miki Sekiguchi
Early Childhood Lead Teacher, Daisy
BFA, University of the Arts
Miki is delighted to be a Kindergarten teacher at Waldorf School of Philadelphia. Miki grew up with her two sisters in the northwest part of Saitama, located a fewhours north of Tokyo, Japan. Kindergarten was one of her favorite times of life. Although it was not an official Waldorf school, it was influenced by Waldorf education and had similar values.
Miki loves to share stories, music, food, toys, and clothing with students to introduce different cultures and religions. She would like to make sure that children get to have “a real childhood” and play a lot in nature while they are young. Miki is currently pursuing the Birth to Seven Certificate at Sophia’s Hearth Teacher Education Center.
Miki went to college in Philadelphia and met her husband here. She is a mother of two children: a son who graduated from the Waldorf School of Philadelphia a few years ago and a daughter who currently attends the school. She lives in Germantown with her husband, children, two cats, and a dog. Miki enjoys nature walks, traditional Japanese sweets, and handwork with children in her class.
